USO Sponsors Friday Night Dinner at the ANC

USO sponsored dinner on August 6, 2010, at the Army Navy Club, Washington DC, for 95 injured service members and their families from WRAMC and NNMC. USO President Sloan Gibson told the service members about the “Operation Enduring Care.” This program was launched by the USO as a comprehensive long-term initiative to support America’s Wounded Warriors and their families. “We understand how your severe injuries have turned your lives and the lives of your families—upside down, sometimes involving many surgeries, years of therapy and a lifetime of support….” Operation Enduring Care will make sure that this generation of warriors knows their sacrifices is recognized and appreciated.

The Army and Navy Club traces its beginnings to December 1885 when seven officers – all Army, Navy and Marine Corps veterans of the Mexican and Civil wars – met to form the United Service Club. In 1891 the Club was reincorporated as The Army and Navy Club, and on October 15, 1891, the Board of Governors held its first meeting. Almost 100 years later, the Club reopened in its present location and was formally dedicated by President Ronald W. Reagan on January 12, 1988.
