Ronald D. Aument

Mr. Aument is a founding partner with Duty First Consulting, LLC, and his professional background is highlighted by 34 years of experience with the Department of Veterans Affairs. After retiring from federal service in early 2008, Mr. Aument joined BearingPoint where he served as Director and Strategic Advisor on the Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs Healthcare team in BearingPoint’s Public Services Business Unit. During his tenure with the BearingPoint DoD/VA Healthcare team, Mr. Aument supported the team on multiple and diverse projects and opportunities in both the VA and DoD arenas. In addition, he consulted on international veterans program issues and brought a number of new business partners to the BearingPoint DoD/VA Healthcare team to strengthen solution offerings.

At VA, Mr. Aument served in a number of senior positions. His last position was Deputy Under Secretary for Benefits, where he served in the role of Chief Operating Officer of the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), a 14,000 employee organization comprising 57 major offices in the United States, Puerto Rico and the Philippines, with an annual operating budget of $1.45B. Prior to joining VBA, Mr. Aument served as VA’s Deputy Chief of Staff and supported the Secretary, Deputy Secretary and Chief of Staff in managing VA’s day-to-day operations. The scope of responsibilities were broad reaching, involving operational management, and policy development and implementation across all of VA’s multiple missions of providing healthcare, financial benefits, and burial and memorial services to veterans and their families.

Mr. Aument’s dedicated service to veterans and to the VA has been recognized through receipt of VA’s Distinguished Career Award in 2008, the Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Service in 2007, and the VA Exceptional Service Award in 2004, VA’s highest ranking award.

Mr. Aument is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University where he received a BS in Business Administration. He is a US Army veteran, with service in Vietnam from 1971 to 1972.
